It all seems a bit like a moody teenager: trying to be mysterious, but just coming off as a bit irritating. It won’t take you that long to complete Escape from LaVille 2, but odds are you’ll never really be gripped along the way. Only short moments of text pop up to explain things, and they’re far from clear anyhow. You spend much of your time tapping on items and piecing them together, yet never really knowing why. Such vagaries mean that Escape from LaVille 2 just isn’t as interesting as it tries to be. Sure hand holding isn’t needed, but some kind of guidance would be useful amongst all the gloom. Escape from LaVille 2 does away with the usual hints system or even a way of seeing what items can be picked up or where you can go next. Mostly though, you’re on your own with this really quite short-lived adventure. The aim here is to track down Detective Campbell, previously called in to the earlier Escape from LaVille game in order to solve the case of a mysterious Green Frost virus. That’s not a bad strategy given that Escape from LaVille 2 offers little guidance, but it’s hardly fun. Fear Over the City (French: Peur sur la ville) is a 1975 French crime film directed by Henri Verneuil and starring Jean-Paul Belmondo. At times it’s tricky to see just what’s going on, meaning your only other alternative is to randomly tap everywhere. Mood lighting is all well and good, but Escape from LaVille 2 is dark enough that you’re going to end up adjusting your brightness settings for it. Being so ridiculously dark doesn’t help either. While it tries to be mysterious, it just comes across as being vague and off-putting. Escape from LaVille 2 isn’t one of those games. It’s not one for plenty of exposition, yet it’s still gripping in how it trickle feeds information to you. Would not recommend.Vague puzzle adventure games can sometimes work quite well. We’ve done quite a few escape rooms before but we’re not very good at them, we usually take the full hour.Ī completely cynical cash grab with clearly no desire to design a fun or challenging escape room. We bought it for a birthday event and it provided 30 mins entertainment. Overall we were really disappointed and feel very ripped off. We didn’t even need to use all the coal collected. The final puzzle required coal collected from previous puzzles throughout the room but there was seemingly no mechanical purpose for it so it wasn’t a satisfying conclusion. The puzzles weren’t satisfying to complete. When boxes released there was no springing open/other indication of the door being released- you had to pull on the door (which we didn’t try too hard as we didn’t want to use undue force). The host had to activate some releases, including one where we just had to tell the host the answer to a riddle, which didn’t really work narratively. Too many padlocks requiring 4 digit codes, not enough variety. A few ‘misdirects’ (puzzles with no solution to throw you off). We paid £99 for the experience and it only took half an hour, we were not trying to be quick.
